green gingham, mustard, and pink…and a braid

Yesterday was one of those days when by the time I finally decided to get dressed, my power had turned off for no specific reason and my hair, having been air dried the night before, looked like it belonged on a vinyl cover of Monster Ballads. Having no means of taming it with heat, I did the next best thing and attacked it with hairspray. The bigger the hair, the closer to God, right?  Wrong. It was awful.
So I did the third best thing and channeled Lauren Conrad circa 2011 or whenever she decided that a front braid was a good idea. I think it gives me a certain je ne sais quoi…as in je ne sais quoi the heck I’m doing with my hair!  Then I put it up into a ponytail and fooled my mother into thinking it was some hip new ‘do, as she kept complimenting me on my tresses when I met up with her yesterday.  As it turns out, people do still wear their hair like this but it felt so foreign to me.
For the sake of integrity, I didn’t crop my head out of these pics. Mostly because my LC-do doesn’t distract too much from the new necklace that I’m obsessed with. Maybe one day I will wear the necklace with a more respectable coif. Until then…

Do you ever braid your hair?  Does it look better than this?

Oh and I’m linking up with Whitney for #backthatazzup Friday!

maxi skirt and chambray shirt

Today is one of those beautiful spring days where the birds are chirping, the sun is shining, and I woke up with a renewed sense of vigor and productivity (the strong coffee I made didn’t hurt).  After days of rain, we’re getting up to 80 degrees in New Jersey so I’m wearing the maxi skirt I purchased back in February.
This is my first maxi skirt.  I have plenty of maxi dresses but find skirts are usually unflattering on my shapely derriere.  The tribal print on this skirt, however, makes it a bit more forgiving.  The chambray that I styled over a plain v-neck tee also hides my hips just the right amount.  See, you almost can’t tell I won the “Most Likely to Be Mistaken for J-Lo from the Back” superlative in high school.
Skirt: Love Culture (similar) // Tee: Old Navy // Chambray: Old Navy (similar)  // Sandals: Nine West (simliar)

Teal and Gold Bracelet: Forever 21 // Gold Chain Bracelet: Yuni Kelly
Necklace: Payless (similar)

How’s the weather where you are?  Are you finally dressing for Spring yet?

business casual: black, white, and turquoise

Oxford: Brooks Brothers // Blazer: Forever 21 // Pants: Gap // Wedges: Payless // Necklace: Walmart
I have a meeting in NYC today which means that I have to dress like a responsible adult.  No camo or studs or glitter today.  I did make sure to have a little fun with this turquoise necklace I bought last week.  I love a tiny pop of color on an otherwise muted outfit.  Styling a necklace on top of a crisp white oxford makes me happy.
Also, in case you haven’t noticed, I’m wearing heels!  Well, technically wedges, but heels nevertheless. Hoping my knee doensn’t hate me by the end of the day.  I packed some flats in my bag just in case.
